Megan & Nolan are two the kindest souls that I've had the pleasure to photograph. They traveled from the Mid-West for their destination wedding here in Kennebunk Maine.
Nolan proposed the year prior while on vacation together in Maine. He waited until they were aboard a sunset cruise to pop the question and while they were headed home they happened to see the On The Marsh Bistro and thought it would be perfect for their wedding day!
Their wedding was intimate and elegant surrounded by a close group of family and friends.
Isn't her gown gorgeous!!
The men got ready down the road in Kennebunkport and Nolan's suite overlooked the Bush estate.
Back at On The Marsh, guests climbed into the trolleys to be shuttled down to the ceremony spot.
Megan & Nolan had a bit of a surprise when they arrived to the site to find that due a miss-communication the chairs were not set up for the ceremony. All the guests grabbed a chair and set up the site in 5 minutes flat and it was one of the most touching things I've seen in a while. All dressed up, everyone was pleased to jump to action and help out. The thing about weddings- they're a chance for friends and family to come together to share their love and support for the newlyweds and that's just what they did. Instead of this being an upsetting and stressful moment, this became a show of love and support.
( no photos of this because I was carrying a few chairs myself!)
Once everything in place, the ceremony was ready to start!
The tricky part about this location on Oaks' Neck is that it's a public spot so it's not possible to reserve it with the town. However, it's gravely base make it less popular for sun bathers who stick to the sandy beaches. Megan & Nolan lucked out and the area was clear from tourists and other on-lookers. It really turned out to be an incredibly beautiful and private spot for them.
Tell me this isn't just the most gorgeous day for a wedding!
Immediately following the ceremony Megan & Nolan had asked me to take family photos of every guest to serve as a wedding souvenir. I just loved this idea and although it added a little bit of extra time, it was such a touching and thoughtful way to express their appreciation for their guests.
After family photos guests took trolleys back to the restaurant and we stayed behind for portraits.
We had taken quite a few good shots but I just had a feeling that if we waited a tiny bit more the light was going to be perfect. The light at sunset is incredible and it did not disappoint!
Back at On The Marsh it was time for speeches, cake cutting and the first dance.
